Hello, My name is Ramya G Spaulding, but since most people can’t pronounce my first name I use the pen name of RGSpaulding. Feel free to call me RG if you like. So a little about myself. I am a licensed civil engineer in the State of California and State of South Carolina. I got my MS in civil with Structural Engineering emphasis from Clemson University. Here is a link to my LinkedIn Profile. I have over 20 years experience designing structures. New work opportunities and family commitments have resulted in my moving all the way from east coast to west coast with a stop in the middle. As a result, I have been fortunate to learn many new things every time I switched jobs. This kept work interesting and allowed me to learn a variety of designs and construction techniques. I was fortunate enough to not worry too much about climbing the corporate ladder and instead take the time to learn to design new and interesting structures. So now after 20 years, I have decided to develop courses online so other young engineers starting out or engineers looking for continuing education credits can find my experience useful. I am planning on researching online and including as many publicly available education materials (creative common license) as possible to make things interesting. Engineers are born out of curiosity and I hope to keep this site interesting to peek your curiosity. Thank you for reading. If you like my site please pass it on to anyone you think that could benefit from it. If you have suggestions for me to improve this site or add more topics please feel free to email me at RG@structuralce.com
For any new engineers checking our my site, first of all Thank you for visiting. If I can give you a couple of pieces of advice, please take your FE exam as soon as or even before you get out of college while everything is still fresh in your mind. Secondly study for your PE exam and take it as soon as you are eligible to take it. A PE license can help you advance your career tremendously. It is a definite necessity if you plan to be an engineer. An SE exam is nice to take but not always a necessity like a PE license. Requirement for a SE license will depend on your line of work. The book that helped me the most in this journey was the Civil Engineering Reference Manual (CERM). You can receive a 15% off coupon if you use SCE15 on the PPI web site. I like to disclose that I am an affiliate for www.PPI2Pass.com, so if you click on this link or the Civil Engineering Reference Manual link to purchase this book, at no extra cost to you, I would receive a small commission and you would receive a 15% off when you use the coupon SCE15. The only reason I am an affiliate for them is because I have used their products and it is really helpful. I have used this manual to pass my PE exam in the first try over a decade ago and if you look at the image of my old copy below you can see how much I have referenced it over the years of my career. It is a wonderful reference manual to have for new engineers, specially after college when you kind of lose track of all your college notes etc. Look at all those tags..I sure should have become an affiliate for the post its and tags. LOL !
